Florida is expected to receive a substantial share of a national settlement to resolve allegations that Sun Trust underwrote and provided faulty mortgage loans.
Sun Trust has agreed to pay nearly $1 billion. The settlement could result in as much as $220 million being paid to Floridians.
The three-year deal provides direct payments to Florida borrowers for past foreclosure abuses and loan modifications.
The attorney general's office estimates more than 8,000 Florida homeowners who lost their homes to foreclosure from 2008 to 2013 will be eligible for a payment.
