One of the worst crashes you can see on a highway in Florida, or anywhere else for that matter, is the wrong way crash. Someone traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the turnpike for instance. Well the state is working on a plan to prevent them on portions of the turnpike and the Sawgrass Expressway. Solar-powered, flashing signs will warn wrong way drivers and at the same time alert law enforcement of their presence. They're going to be installed on 10 ramps on the Homestead Extension of the turnpike and five ramps of the Sawgrass this summer. Lights will warn a driver, but if they pass that warning, a signal goes to the transportation department and highway patrol.
