Tropical Storm Karen Has Formed

Tropical Storm Karen has formed on the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm formed Thursday morning. It was about 500 miles south of the mouth of the Mississippi River and  had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph.

Karen was moving north-northwest at 13 mph, and it could be at or near hurricane strength by Friday.

This storm is expected to move through the Gulf of Mexico and could make landfall in the Florida Panhandle over the upcoming weekend.
