There's been a growing number of drowning incidents involving children with autism. That's why the group Autism Speaks is offering scholarships to organizations in our area that offer swimming and water safety programs.
The non-profit says drowning is the leading cause of death after a person with autism wanders from safety, so Autism Speaks is accepting applications for its Swimming and Water Safety Scholarship Fund, offering up to $2,500.
Grants are awarded quarterly and there's a May 21st deadline.
