Vacationers evacuated a central Florida resort building before a sinkhole caused a section of the villa to partially collapse early today.
Lake County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Tony Cuellar says about 30 percent of the three-story structure at Summer Bay Resort collapsed around 3 o'clock this morning. Another section was sinking.
The development's president says the resort underwent geological testing when it was built about 15 years ago and there were no signs before yesterday that a sinkhole was developing. He says all affected guests have been given other rooms.
Summer Bay is located about 10 miles from Walt Disney World.
Witnesses told The Associated Press they could hear a cracking sound as the villa began sinking. A large crack was visible at the building's base.
